100 Anniverary

A RICH AND COLORFUL HISTORY

It all began in the early 1920s, when the hotel’s founder, Manuel Barbachano, decided to bring his dream to life. The hotel officially opened its doors to the public in 1924.

In 1932, the grand lobby, 50 additional guest rooms, the Salón Mexicano, and the Azteca Restaurant & Bar were built. Later, Mr. Barbachano and his wife, María Luisa Chabert, built an elegant mansion near the ocean. Today, part of the property is home to Casa Playa Spa and Chabert’s Restaurant.

The hotel’s beauty, authentic Mexican atmosphere, warm hospitality, and cuisine attracted renowned Hollywood stars and international figures.

Among its distinguished guests were Orson Welles, Edward G. Robinson, Robert Stack, Gregory Peck, Vincent Price, Robert Preston, Spencer Tracy, and Anthony Quinn. In 1954, Ali Khan, son of the Shah of Iran, visited the hotel accompanied by actress Rita Hayworth.

Rosarito Beach Hotel also welcomed Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner, Joan Bennett, and Kim Novak. Above the lobby entrance, a phrase remains as a reminder of that glamorous era:
